How unlucky is this ?
« on: Apr 28, 2015, 04:26:32 PM »
 :crybaby2:

Went camping over the weekend, great trip, just up to Murphys Creek, in one of the remote sites, very quiet until the wind came up and made it unbearable - anyway thats not the issue

I had all but finished packing up, backed car in to hitch up trailer and stopped between 2 trees, had to put a couple of small things into passenger side, Michelle opended passenger door and went to collect her couple of items I was at back of the car tidying up the stuff, and then a small branch dropped from the dead tree, hit the top of the door and pics show damage, now this was not a heavy stick at all - boy it is soft on top of door could not believe the ding in it,

If I did not stop, door was shut would have missed, oh well about $400 to fix I am told.

Bugger! No good at all Grant.

$400 sounds very reasonable to me though, not even worth going through insurance.

Hi Grant,

I suppose one of those things aye...

'looking at the pics, as you said it wasn't a big branch at all but 'gave it a good ding.  I noticed the paint work "peeled" off (?) where it hit.  I would've thought the paint should have "bent" with the metal.

Anyway. 'hope you get her back in tip top shape again.

Cheers!
Carpe Diem... Memento mori!

Wow that's unlucky. Must've hit at just the right angle to give it a good knock. At least it's only $400 though, could have been worse!

really surprised me me the paint flaked, the panel beater reckons pretty common on modern cars,

She will come good for sure, if I ever get the official quote in hand.

Expensive weekend away, oh well that's life as they say

Finally all fixed up came up perfect, was good to use an old school panel repairer with great skills not a blemish on it, gave it a bath and tyre black as well, $473 all done.

Must remember - dont ever park under dead trees on a windy day.

Also got some nice dark window tint done as well, looks great.

Bad luck that would suck big time. This would put a big dent on a good holiday  :sad10:.might be a good idea for every one to read this post and not park or set up a camp under a tree..A lesson learnt for all.. :BangHead: :angry5: :BangHead:

Dont park under trees full stop if possible..... My previous Subaru Forester suffered major paint damage from tree sap that dribbled down two of my doors while camping somewhere last year. Didnt think much of it at the time and should have tried to remove it straight away, but after washing and checking into it a week or two later I found the gum dribbles had eaten through the paintwork complete.... nearly down to the metal! Very costly... :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :angryfire: :cussing:

It could have done serious damage to someone's head had they been standing in the doorway at the time.

You don't have to park it under the tree to have problems. Many years ago in Nth Queensland I parked our Subaru next to a coconut tree. My wife was concerned about the coconuts in the tree falling on our car but I explained that because the tree was on a 60 deg lean any falling coconuts would fall harmlessly 10 mts from the car. That night a nut dislodged and bounced about four times down the trunk and hit the drivers side door. I always ask  the missus where to park now.
