Very nice DannyG!
Here's our old set up from the previous house.
I built the sims out of MDF, painted them and had a mate print up the stickers. I still have the HDT sim but my son outgrew his so it's been sold, we still have the PS3s and G25s, we raced one on one mostly, rather than with internet.
What sort of hardware etc is involved for iRacing?

Nice set up Knoath.

www.iRacing.com is subscription based so it is not like your normal racing 'games'.

It is strongly based on providing the best physics engine so it is very much a simulator rather than a game. You cant turn damage off and you can only race in cockpit view as an example. They are very heavy on providing car and track accuracy rather than pretty graphics.

Unfortunately most peoples computers could not run outstanding graphics AND the physics engine this sim provides so they must give something up. But having said that, the graphics are still more than acceptable. But the detail of the tracks is incredible, right down to having the bumps in the right places, the drainage grates and trees etc at bathurst.

Heres a video on the making of Bathurst as an example.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpTMa4uWQls" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpTMa4uWQls</a>

And heres a video of last Saturdays Bathurst 1000.

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svqTRHVWYhc" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svqTRHVWYhc</a>

In regards to hardware it is not heavy on PC power surprisingly. I guess mainly due to not having video heavy graphics.
We use a pretty average PC and your G27's are perfect.

The online racing is license based. So you start as a rookie and work your way through D,C,B and A licenses depending on how clean you race and how well you stay on the track.

If you are lucky enough to make it to Pro class you can race for prize money up to $10000 USD but those guys have set up crews, pit stop crews and spotters etc helping them on a weekly basis.

At this time of year it is common to see quite a few of the Supercar drivers online cutting laps around Bathurst.
Get on it and look me up. Oldmate at Myswag is into it as well.

Thanks DannyG, sorry for the late reply, just home from the Mountain!
You mentioned our G27s, we have G25s... I'll have to check these are OK.
I should be able to get a purpose built PC through a family member, so I guess it'll just be a couple more monitors!
Thanks for the links, great vid on the Bathurst build!

I don't thinks there is a lot of difference between the 25's and 27. You dont have to have triple monitors, you can adjust the field of view to use one monitor easy enough. I only use 3 because I had a couple of old monitors laying around and the main monitor is actually our camper tv!

Just joined the forum. Considering an MU-X. I'm another iRacer, an over 50s kid! Been at it for about 4 years. Absolutely mind blowing with the Oculus Rift VR headset. The walls loom large on the mountain! Trying to tame the V8 Supercar at Bathurst gives you a greater appreciation of the skill of the real world drivers.

Ive driven around the circuit many times so I respect the guys going around there at speed like they do!
Trying to be consistently fast around there in a v8 is not easy.

Stop considering the MUX and buy it ;)
