Is it just me ...... or does the new Prado bear a passing resemblance to the good old FJ Cruiser ?

Cheers

Yes!
The price is the biggest killer, at $100k it will attract the luxury car tax, so another $6k !
Could buy 2 x mux for that !!

New prado needs AD BLUE - more $$ to run the car, and $20k more than MUX. If you run out of ad blue, you stop!!

MUX might be top of the sales figures (everest also needs ad blue)

just saw a review on the new prado.

Confirmed that they need Ad blue !! the boot area if full of seats and dont' sit flat like next gen MuX

Top spec prado = $108K
Top spec MUX = $66k.

Isuzu all the way! and no need for Ad blue (and i'll put down a deposit on an investment property with the difference)

Obviously trading on the belated popularity of the FJ Cruiser. They couldn't give the things away when they were new, at least in Australia. Just a 4l V6 petrol Prado chassis with an ugly body on top. But somehow, during Covid, they became cool again, and Toyota picked up on it. Copping some flak online--smaller fuel capacity than the old Prado, with no option of the aux fuel tank, and a rear storage area compromised for load capacity AND weight by the battery fitted for the mild hybrid system.

I'm sure we will be able to see more tests on the new Prado as Ronny has just bought one.  The basic and the top end one's can be bought without the third row of seats.  Seems the other in between variants have the third row seats fitted.  :dontknow:

i've seen a few new Prados driving around. Must admit, i do like the style.

Been doing some research and looking a bit deeper the cracks start to appear?

- They run AD BLUE, not only do you have to pay hundreds of dollars to fill the tank (over its life), it adds weight to the car, and if you run out the car stops! Ad blue has pump issues, SCR issues, heater issues and normally have NOX sensors, if your car smokes a bit, it will stop! there are many examples of people filling up the diesel tank with Ad Blue (say goodbye to $10k for new injectors/pump).

- The weight has gone to 2600kg, compared to MUX at 2100kg. This must effect performance (gutless!). Although the torque is 500NM, compared to 450NM, the Prado would need 557NM to have the same torque to weight ratio as MUX.

- Prices around $110k for top spec, compared to $66k for MUX (thats alot of spare money to buy a caravan/boat or travel the world for 6 months).

- The rear boot area is 1/3 full of the new 48V batteries, theres no room for draws/fridges (see photo below) etc

- Fuel usage, reports are showing an actual real world use of 9.5l/100km, while my MUX actual real world driving is 7.3l/100km. Thats about $8,800 of extra fuel use over 200,000km of ownership @ $2/ litre (ouch!)

- Service intervals are 6 monthly, compares to 12monthly for Isuzu. Thats double the service costs! (double ouch)

Its an easy decision, the MuX uses less fuel, is lighter, no ad blue, and half the price! (avoid the Toyota tax)
