Afternoon all, I've just received my insurance renewal from Club 4x4 for my 2017 MUX LST & the premium is much higher than last years (up 15.4%), and they have automatically depreciated the vehicle to $46,484. New premium is $920.
What other companies are people using that give you good coverage and at a reasonable price?
Cheers

Not WA, but a national insurer nevertheless, NRMA Insurance (Insurance Australia Ltd) recently increased my premium by 0.81% from $523 to $528, and reduced the agreed value by 7.2% from $49250 to $45700.
Basic Excess is $850. 65% NCB, 25% loyalty discount etc. I feel it's a good, fair policy.

I'm in WA
I've found insuring our MU-X a bit of a minefield. We're planning an outback trip in August so I decided to look for a policy which would cover this type of activity. The insurance broker I settled on stated this in the policy
2017 ISUZU MU-X LS-U (4X4), UC MY17, 4D WAGON, TCDI, 2999, 3.0L, 6M, DT4
Policy Type XXXXXXXXX
Type of Cover Comprehensive
Limit of Liability $ 30,000,000
Garage Address BALLAJURA 6066
Registration Number XXXXXXX
VIN XXXXXXXXXXXXX
No Claim Bonus 60.00%
Driver Classification Safe Driver
Vehicle Use Private
* THIS POLICY COVERS YOUR VEHICLE FOR FULL ON AND OFF ROAD, ANYWHERE IN AUSTRALIA THIS
INCLUDES RIVER CROSSINGS, SAND DUNES, BEACHES ETC. (THERE ARE NO RESTRICTIONS)
Note it's a comprehensive policy on or off road with no restrictions. The annual cost was $1200. I then asked if it was 'Market Value' or 'Agreed Value'. There's a big difference between the two. Market Value is set by the insurance company based on the age of the vehicle and general market value at that time for that particular make and model. It generally doesn't include the value of any accessories or modifications. Agreed Value is the value of the vehicle agreed between yourself and the insurer and includes accessories & modifications. When I asked for the Agreed Value the premium rose to $1400.
I then asked if I was covered should the vehicle breakdown whilst in the outback. The answer was NO! I'd be covered if the vehicle was involved in a crash, caught fire, etc but not a breakdown.
So the insurance certainly isn't comprehensive and there appears to be plenty of restrictions <caveat emptor>
I'm a cautious and risk averse driver and my assessment is a breakdown is my major outback risk. I therefore can't see much advantage in looking for some type of quasi outback insurance which doesn't cover me for my major risk. I suppose I could be dishonest and if the vehicle were to breakdown I could set it on fire which would fall within the policy. But I'm not dishonest. Instead I'm going to stick with my current SGIO policy (and a premium of $450) and accept the risk of not being covered for breakdown.
Oh and never believe being loyal to an insurance company will result in reduced annual premiums. Most insurers offer a discount to get new customers and then raise the premium in subsequent years.

So Tom60, did you have a look at your roadside assist for WA and get the highest level possible? Just curious.

Hello Chunky, I have 2017 MUX 4X2 LS-T insured for $44000 agreed value with $500 excess for $464 payable by the month with no extra charge.Only catch is you must be over 50 which I well and truly am.

G'day rexyb, and yes I'm also on the wrong side of 50. What company are you with if I may ask?
cheers

No! I decided to go with the cheapest standard coverage and accept the fact that if I breakdown somewhere very remote I have no insurance coverage. In 52 years of driving I've never had a breakdown outside a metropolitan area.

Just got my renewal from AAMI.
12 month Premium = $379.30
Sum insured = $38,900
Seems reasonable although the value isn't as good as last year. Lower sum insured and higher premium. Agreed value of $38,900 is probably about right.
