Title: Maxtrax/TREDs storage
Post by: knoath on Jul 16, 2015, 06:31:39 AM
I'm heading to the SA/VIC Border Track in August and I'm pretty sure I'll be using my TREDs!!!
How do you store/mount your recovery boards? On your roof rack or in a bag in the back?
Pics would be great!!!

We have our 4 Maxtraxs in a  custom made rip stop vinyl bag with some extra room for wet/muddy recovery gear. Then have a foam camping tile cut in half and both pieces layer end on in the bag between bag and Maxtrax so it doesn't rub through on roof basket.

OK mate, both Maxtrax and TRED sell storage bags if that is the way you want to go.  Both also sell mounting pins for roof racks etc.

I haven't attached my roof racks yet and just wrapp them up in a think blanket and chuck them in the back so they don't scratch and not viable if I forget to take them out

Yes banna, I'm the same… don't like internet shopping etc, I'd rather walk in and pay, walk out with the goods.

DMaxDave, I can't have my roof basket permanently on the car as I wouldn't get under the garage door (which is a real pain  :BangHead:).

Was thinking of a rack inside the canopy… something like:

But all 4 stacked… and possibly across the canopy.

All good when they are clean Knoath, but would you be happy with them in there when covered in mud or sand?
Also consider rattle and bumping if you do go down this path.

It would be nice if these things were collapsable.

True Parko…. I might just keep it simple and use those rubber tie down straps from Bunnings when I have the basket attached, but when I don't?...

Knoath, how about you go with your design as detailed above (inside cab rack) and also carry a canvas bag (or similar) folded up in your rig.
95% of the time they will store clean up in your 'in cab rack', then if you get them dirty then they go into the bag and get stowed wherever they will fit in the tub until you get a chance to wash them and re-stow them in the rack.
Problem solved!

No bling effect with them in a bag inside  :laughing7:

And having used them once or twice in anger, you don't want them inside if used in either sand or mud.  They hold a LOT of dirt.  They need to be in a bag if inside.
