Title: It's that time of the year again... Insurance renewal just before XMas
Post by: yvesjv on Nov 22, 2021, 01:57:17 PM
Hi all,

Every darn XMas/NY.
I think they want to get my $$$ first before we eat/drink it all.

Currently looking at the AANT ticket for full comprehensive and it is at just under $1235.
Basic excess is at $500.
Sum insured is "New Car Replacement"

I really like the AANT as they are a very good/reliable crew.
But I'd be insane not to checkout the competition.

Thus the question, who do you guys insure with and how good are they?

Thanks in advance.

Mine is with club4x4 as most of the cars work will be offroad, and I think it was around $850 for the year and I chose an $850 excess. If I did any damage under $1500, I would just fix it myself without insurance, hence I take a bigger excess usually to keep the annual cost down.

Mine is covered though completely offroad, anywhere, literally. Other insurers don't offer that and would be useless for anyone who wheels offroad regularly.

I'm with NRMA and just insured mine.  The agreed value actually went up by $3 100.  It was $24 300 last year and $27 400 this year.  Considering I paid $34 000 for it six year ago, that's a depreciation of a bit over $1 100 per year.  Pretty good.

I've used NRMA for a few claims, unfortunately.  Two vehicle claims and two home contents claims.  They have been fantastic to deal with every single time.

Thanks guys,

Did the online quoting on both CLUB4x4 and NRMA.
Tried to get the equivalent of 'new car replacement' if the Fun Minister does the DMax in, that would be the third vehicle of mine if that happens... never hers  :dontknow:

CLUB4x4 took the details and will get back within the next day
NRMA straight out quoted online the Monthly/Yearly costs. I'm looking at $1948 for agreed value per year. Haven't listed the adds on yet...Hmm, I think not but was worth looking into.

I did my club4x4 all online, tweaked all the options to suit my use, and got the online figure then and there.

Hey yvesjv, we are with budgetdirect. Cannot fault them during our latest insurance dealings and the premiums are around $950  per vehicle which includes a chunk for the pay monthly or weekly convenience.

Thanks guys.
Club4x4 wants pics of the fronf, sides and back of the ute before they even give an estimate... nah.
NRMA was just under $2K... oh yeah, nah!

TIO is now ripping off the country side since they got sold off to Alliance... don't think so either.

I'll look up the rest proposed.

You get what you pay for.
If it's a glammed up shopping trolley that doesn't get more than 500km for home go for Coles or similar. If you do serious off road read the fine print, that's why some are more expensive,  but some are just a rip off.

Cheers Glen

I NEVER renew our insurances.  Insurance companies don't believe in loyalty and invariably increase the premium annually.  They will usually offer a better price to new customers compared to existing.  Therefore I cancel the policy at the end of the 12 month period and start fresh.  Often with the same company.  Usually this results in a saving of at least $100.

We do similar, but we get a new quote from them and then ring them with the new quote price, ask them why to renew is more expensive, then match the price. Same outcome.

I did a quick compare for my (hopefully) soon to arrive x-terrain.

I have 0 demerits, and 1 windscreen claim in last three years. 15K KMs a year, kept under carport.

AANT has delivered.
They've dropped the "Brand New Car" policy to 1100.
It is the last year I'll be on this policy, once it expires it jumps to 1500 for full comprehensive... hello 2024  :sad10:

Wow. Are these prices for new model variants?  Either way, just make sure your policy is currently for market value but can be changed back and forth to agreed value. And ensure you have an exact understanding of the terms "market value" and "agreed value" as specified by your insurer. Some agreed value policies in the current environment will be well under market value.

Thanks for the info ajm
I'm getting in touch with your Insurer in 2023, they have been good to you  :cup:

This policy is for a brand new car replacement if it is written off.
Well I bought the car from the local Isuzu stealer in Jan 2018
Guess it hasn't been brand new for a couple of years.

My quote went up again by a small amount.................but so did the agreed value of my Dmax.  It's now valued at $29 200.  Thats only $4 800 less than I paid for it seven years ago. I can't really complain about that.

I have found CGU to be a bit dearer in the past, BUT... one of the very few that offered "new for old" without having to be the first registered owner.  Quite handy while dealing with a writeoff during the days of car prices going nuts.  Really couldn't fault their performance, given the late-2021 Chrissy/COVID craziness of getting anything assessed, or transported, or finding a new vehicle...

With almost any other insurer it would have been "here's your forty something grand, good luck getting into anything close without shelling another 10 or 15."

Allianz seems to offer the same sort of benefit (last I checked...) and at a cheaper rate than CGU.

Allianz has been my go to.

Hi All,

I had a total write off on my 2010 Holden Colorado a week before Christmas 2020 when I hit a cow at about 105 kms per hour in a 110 kms zone.
I was insured at market value with Allianz.
I found and bought a 2018 D-Max with 25000k on the clock for$45,000 which I then insured for an agreed value of what I paid for it.
Last renewal the agreed value went up to $52,500 and the premium reduced!
This all is still with Allianz.
I thought that the new for old was only for cars bought new and written off in the first two years of ownership of the vehicle!

Merry Christmas All.

I thought that the new for old was only for cars bought new and written off in the first two years of ownership of the vehicle!

"If your car is a total loss, and no more than 2 years have passed since the manufacture year
shown in your policy details document, you can choose what you’d like us to do."
- Allianz PDS, Page 13

"If your vehicle is a total loss as a result of an incident, we may
decide to replace your vehicle with a new vehicle.
We will only do this if your vehicle is:
• a car less than three years old and has not travelled more
than 50,000 kilometres"
- CGU PDS, Page 4

So Allianz appears to be more flexible to your wants, but only up to 2 years since manufacture.  I have to say though, CGU didn't argue the toss at all when I said I wanted a replacement.  "Yes sir, we can do that..." even though paying me out would have saved them about 20 grand (I "accidentally" saw CGUs invoice) along with a couple of hundred hours of admin.  Wholeheartedly recommend them based on our outcome.
