Title: What's Goin On?
Post by: wj957 on Aug 29, 2021, 04:40:04 PM
I find it strange there has been zero activity on this forum for the last 3 days.

A. Is there something wrong with the forum software?
B. Has the rest of Australia expired with 'rona?
C. Have all lockdowns been repealed and everybody has gone 4wd/camping?
D. Or is there something wrong with this puta & its operator?     :dontknow: :dontknow: :dontknow:

Well after a week of wet weather, we had a cracker of a day here in East Gippsland, so I was busy in the garden all day.
Today the rain is back and I’ve been in the workshop fitting out the DMax with my camping setup, should we be allowed to go further than 5 k from home ever again.

Certainly has been quiet in here though.

Sitting here in the silence, makin friends with my tinnitus  :tard:

Ahhhh, the tinnitus, isnt that fun.
Ive had mine for as long as i can remember.
Mine is from several severe ear infections as a child through extosies.
I have tried several "cures" none have worked even a tiny little bit.

Mine gets worse when im tired or not well.
At night its horrible and some nights it keeps me awake.

I have been told tgat it varies from person to person.
Mine sounds like a constant hizzzzzz, similar to the noise of an amplifier at full volume with no music input.

Having had it most of my life, i have learned to live with it.
But my doctor tried to get me into a support group as there are people who cannot cope.

Hope yours isnt as bad as mine.
Cheers

Mine is like a cross between the constant hiss from a leaking air hose, and crickets.

Ear infections as a kid in the tropics, and fast motorcycles with poor helmet designs in the late 70's did me in.

Pink Floyd helps.

Ouch.
$5k

I need a hearing aid, my wife is starting to complain about the TV being too loud and not listening to her.

Im holding off until I can get it cheaper as a pensioner.
Im only 63 and a self funded retiree.
I dont have a real lot to waste

Mine was less than $1000 from Costco and works well, fitted by one of their qualified audiologists.

My original pair cost me $2,000 but took them back and updated to a $4,000 pair. :dontknow:

My recent purchase, now on the aged pension, cost me around $850 and they include Bluetooth. The normal retail price is about $4,000 but get a big Government subsidy  :laughing7: :occasion14:

Valkie, I took my advice from a friend who needed 2 hearing aids from childhood.

Buy the best there is.

So I got the bluetooth jobby with an app on my phone, you can pair it to the TV and listen to it as loud as you like, with the TV's own speakers turned off.

Its worth it for the "brownie points", you can also turn off Pegasus  ;D (everlasting nag)

Yeah, i tend to buy quality as it is usually the best and lasts longer.

But i cant justify thousands for a hearing aid at the moment.
When i get into the pension thing, i can get subsidized hearing aids and that makes sense to me.
Its only 4 years away, i have put up with it for the last 10 years, whats another 4?

Also, its not a 1 time purchase.
I'm told to expect about 5 years use before replacement, so next time I will be on the geriatric bludge.

Mine cost $14,000 for the pair!
A lifetime of shooting in the bush.

OMG $14,000.00 that would send me broke.

I have priced them and once I get the part pension they come down to a very affordable level.
I cannot see why every other disability is subsidized, but not hearing loss.
It makes life a pain, but they love gouging poor old taxpayer to death.

Its like cataract surgery, they say they can do it for a few dollars overseas in third world countries, but its tens of thousands in Australia.

Rip off

I thought that $4,000 was over the top. They were bloody useless and I hardly ever used them.

The new one are fantastic and I have yet to miss a day without them in nearly 12 months.

With the Bluetooth I can answer the phone and get beep for messages etc. I have yet to get around to hooking them into the TV as I can now hear it quite clearly.

I hope that comment was in jest as I worked for 55 years for my geriatric bludge and just got my 1st free hearing aids

Worst part was that I lost one of my hearing aids. Of course they dont make that model any more so I had to buy a new pair! Insurance job thankfully.

Yep, expect them to last 5 years of so. I upgrade mine about then. I wouldn't - couldn't do without them as my loss of hearing is profound.

Do you take them out now before you pull the trigger? Or just turn down the volume?

My deafness is due to 20 odd years working with rifles with a 105-120 mm calibre. Over time I found it convenient because I could drive a car and be blissfully ignorant of the conversation to my left emanating from the passenger's seat. She's gone now unfortunately, but the kids still try to abuse me for not having a hearing aid. I can't hear them above the volume of the TV, the radio, or the stereo though. I'm happy :laughing7:

I have found DVA  very good  for lump sum and fortnightly payments for hearing loss for veterans.
Havent been down the hearing aid avenue.

I don't shoot with my hearing aids in - take them out.
I couldn't live without them and working with staff and clients would be very difficult.
