Title: Camping with Dog
Post by: bensimeon on Jul 13, 2018, 11:32:11 AM
Hey Guys & Girls, chasing suggestions for how you camp with a dog, ie where they sleep? My fiancé and I sleep in a Kings Double Swag so he won't really fit there, though about getting him one of the single swag (he is only a little staffy) but not sure if he would get out easily. Any ideas please !?!

We have a little tent for them to sleep in. About $10 from Kmart from memory
Can leave it open if they re not wanderers, or zip it up if they are.

Yes he will.. :icon_thumleft:

If he's like every Staffy I've had he'll find a spot. Just make sure he's at the other end of the swag and there's plenty of ventilation. Staffy owners will know what I mean  :laughing7:

I had thought about this but wanted something midgy/wildlife resistant as he's a bit of a sook!  :crybaby2:

I was thinking about trying it but he is a bit crazy when people are sleeping/not paying him any attention, and if I  let him in our swag when camping then the missus will think its ok for him to sleep in our bed all the time... not happening! (at least for now)  ;D :toothy9:

That's an interesting clash of agendas you've just outlined here - let us know how that works for you when you get back!  :laughing7:

I suspect your current sleeping arrangements will dictate what happens when you go camping.  If he sleeps with you at home then he's going to want to sleep with you when away (or keep you wake all night whimpering and howling).

If he doesn't currently sleep with you then he won't be expecting to share your swag (although he might try it on!).

Mozzie proof, zipmup door, top and door mesh and has floor in it.
We have 2 staffies that arent exactly gentle on the tent and its lasted 3 trips, 2 of which have been 2 month trips.
Takes about 2 minutes to put up and about 4 to roll up and put in bag. Very compact when packed.
Something like this

I'm a year late but thought I could make s good suggestion. If camping in north Qld, NT or north WA, always put your dog about 10m away and make sure it's between you and the water.
