Kinda funny (I'm in IT... so that they thought they could do it without being caught eventually is funny), but also interesting...
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/09/21/volkswagen_apologises_diesel_emissions_test_cheat/
from the article:- they used a "sophisticated software algorithm" on some of its vehicles, which the agency said "detects when the car is undergoing official emissions testing, and turns full emissions controls on only during the test."
It added that the cars under investigation by the EPA "emit up to 40x the national standard for nitrogen oxide (NOx), which is linked to asthma and lung illnesses."
I wonder if the Amarok may be among those vehicles ... ?
-
Wow, 40x higher NOx than the national standard is huge.
If VW are up to no good then how many others are too.
-
Porsche then...

Honda and Yamaha (and I'm sure others) have been doing this sort of things for years and years on their motorcycles. Part of the reason why there's odd deadspots in the torque curve, or valves in the exhaust that only close if you hold the RPM steady on an exact spot which is used in tests, etc.

You are all missing the point here, This is a terrorist attack on the US! Not the first time Germans have used noxious gas.
