hi - not towing.   10klm per litre =10 litres per 100klm
your consumption sounds good,
my dmax is 2016 with 5 speed and yours is 6 speed
and i would drive much faster than you.

Was that towing? I also live in South Australia(Barossa Valley area) and have just returned from a trip to Darwin. 12.76l/100kms towing a 2.5 ton caravan. 6750km total with about 700km not towing. Vehicle is a MY19 Dmax.

I don't know anything about electronics. But I have a question: why not just protect the CAN bus?
That is an excellent question.

The CAN bus probably has a focus on real time messaging and retaining integrity of the message.
But we are seeing IOT devices that are running some real time kernel types everywhere.
Wouldn't be surprised if someone has already thought of placing an IOT type controller (running on arm or similar) smack bang in the car as the 'brains'. This would make it possible to secure the car.

I live in Adelaide and have just returned from a trip to Darwin- 2016 DMAX- 10 days driving 6300 klms-fuel consumption 10 klm/litre.
Beware of Erldunda at 3.05 a litre!!!
What intrigues me is the number of  reasonable cars on the side of the road either broken down/accident damage or stolen dumped and burnt.
If one has a hit an animal and damaged beyond driving or even towing (no fun on a tow rope with no power steering or brakes)  how do you get by? Your mobile phone is useless so sat phone or Starlink?
Rely on others?
I can understand with accident damage and recovery costs and repair costs why so many cars are left.

...unless a very energy efficient battery is invented.

Yes, as usual battery tech is the weak point of the whole equation.  Don't get me wrong, I love the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow; who wouldn't want an electric vehicle that can replace an equivalent diesel without the current swathe of compromises?  But "compromise" (whether it be price, range, capability, durability, or all of the above) is the big sticking point... as it has always been with EV technology.

Batteries simply aren't up to the job on many fronts, and it's a pity.

OK, the big red car is home. Cleaned glass and cigarette butts out of every nook and cranny. And the sticky residue on every surface. Sorry, has to be said, smokers are filthy.

Have removed rear seats and washed. Will leave front seats until next weekend so the kids can play tomorrow. That said, I have to remove the centre console to get to the gear stick (auto) mechanism. It sticks in Park
 Apparently an easy fix.

Just wondering if anyone knows what it could be when the ignition is turned off but there is still something running and clicking. No fans on. Key out of ignition.

One of my friends found mice in his car. They lived right in the car and carried all sorts of rubbish in it. He had to dismantle the car to destroy their nest.
Maybe you have mice too?

Ask these guys: https://www.youtube.com/@KarstanAndMaxine

They have a lifted beetle wagon on 35's I think they are.
Wow, you watch them too? They don't do a lot of videos lately. But I used to love watching them.

Not very surprising.
Car electronics are about as sophisticated as computers in the 70’s and 80’s.
I worked in IT security for a long time after being a motor mechanic.
The CAN Bus has no protection and getting added user function is more important.
Like I want to start my car and have it warm or remote open doors or wind down windows from any part of the world.
I don't know anything about electronics. But I have a question: why not just protect the CAN bus?

They misspelt Baldivis :-) Not Baldavis. This is a southern suburb of Perth. Everyone worries about the wildlife on the roads when you hit the big northwest, and yet, our worst places are down in the southwest. Massive mobs of greys getting fat and breeding. I live surrounded by national park at the north end of the midwest, and our biggest risk area is right in town, big mobs of greys, coming in to feed on lawns and the oval.

Wow, it's like you live in a zoo :laughing7:
