Landcruiser 300 engine failures

<< < (3/3)

mux339:
This D4D Engines report on the first strip down stated that the primary problem is heat transference in the cylinder, not the grade of oil. It's a mechanical and design issue and 15W-40 won't fix it.

Wild Touring provided a fairly positive review of the GX (8 months ago), and no engine issues.

yes, looks like the 2nd ring gets hot, expands and picks up the bore.

Whats the fix?

did you see the lobe wear, that can only be due to lack of lubrication!!

Whats the fix? Nissan Patrol, Warrior FTW! And $110K  driveaway.

I did see another speculative article, where it states there is a heavier optional oil for that motor, for use under heavy conditions( ie towing) , and Toyota don't just fill it with that as standard. Cures the oil burning as well. and, to the person that said they had used 15w40 for thirty years without a problem, motors were a lot different then. I used to use it back then too, but not necessarily any good for a modern design.
We all seem to want more HP and less fuel, and the piper must be paid, and his payment will be in lack of longevity.
