Mazda CX5
maweida:
Need your help.... again...
Need to replace my wifes tribute. Thinking of the CX5 - 2.5L motor, petrol. What are your thoughts?
I can get a 2nd hand one for $24K, 7l/100km, just to run to work and back. They have a conventional 6 speed auto, rather than $%^& CVTS used on Subarus.
Only thing wrong i can find is they have that bloody stop start thingy. Looks like you can just jam a cable tie into the button and it goes away.

I sold our Mazda when I bought the MUX, left the Mazda forum and joined this one.....
maweida:
Did you sell due to issues? Or just wanted a real 4x4.

We have had a petrol Mazda CX3 for nine years now, No problems, good fuel consumption. I enjoy driving it - good steering and brakes and performs well. The CX5 would have more space but the CX3 suits us as a second car. The I-Stop can be turned off each time we drive the car but we have got used to it. I have heard a couple of bad stories about diesel Mazdas so I would steer clear of those.

The Leader of the Opposition has had a 2016 Mazda 3 since new; very happy with it except for 2 things - the i-stop thingy which can be turned off but resets 'on' after every shutdown. We found this can be solved by not jamming foot hard on the brake while stopped. It is possible to apply just enough brake to prevent car from moving forward at stop light without triggering the dreaded i-stop. Takes a bit of practice to consistently get it right though...
The other issue is that the auto (otherwise very good) always tries to change up at fairly low revs, meaning gutless performance specially with a load on board. Easily solved by hitting the "Sport" mode button, but this quickly reverts to normal if you don't keep your foot into it. Can use the wheel mounted shift paddles which works well too. Goes satisfactory for a 2 litre if you can get it to rev ("satisfactory" as measured by a driver of a Caprice with 6.2 litre v8).
This is the third Mazda we've owned - they have all been very good overall.
